Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in the beautiful Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta where there's always endless opportunities for great pictures.

Time

I'm not a morning person at all, but this picture was around 6:30 ish. I must admit that for landscape photography the early bird gets nice shots. Arriving early at popular locations is always a good idea.

Lighting

Although the sun was high, the light was good enough to give that relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. It has been said many times, the closer to sunrise and sunset hours the better the pictures.

Equipment

I have a Nikon 5200 and a Sigma lens 18-250, nothing fancy, just a basic equipment.

Inspiration

It is impossible not to feel inspired and amazed by the beauty of Waterton National Park. It is located at the southwest corner of Alberta and it is a shared Natural Area with the US (Montana, Glacier National Park). If you have the chance, don't miss the opportunity to visit, and you will quickly agree with me.

Editing

For post processing I use Lightroom. I only use the basic features such as exposure, highlights, shadow, clarity and vibrance because I think that abusing of post-processing beats the purpose of a good picture. Nature is beautiful enough.

In my camera bag

I have my camera and tripod always with me. Additionally I have a spare battery and a soft cleaning cloth and brush for dust and raindrops.

Feedback

It is good to visit the site beforehand if you have the opportunity in order to be familiar with the light and natural conditions of the site. As I said before, try to be early to get the best light. Try different angles, it is surprising how different a place can look just by taking a picture with a different or unusual angle. Enjoy being outdoors and trying to get good pictures!
