Location
This photo was taken in Browning Montana and it was my first time staying in a teepee which I think gave the right "atmosphere" for this shot.Time
It was around 23:00, it was chilly outside and I was tired of the trip there but I stayed awake to watch the stars and got a nice surprise when my teepee neighbours turn on the lights inside! I knew it was a great opportunity for a nice photo.Lighting
The lighting in this photo was very challenging because I had the moon in the background, the soft light in the teepee and the lights from Browning close to the position of the moon, so it was hard for me to get the right exposure, especially because the moon is very bright and I'm still learning night photography.Equipment
I used a Nikon 5200 with a Sigma lens and my Manfrotto tripod, nothing complicatedInspiration
The whole trip was to search for the First Nations legacy left by the ancestors of my friend in this area and Glacier National Park, so I think everything was connected and served as my main inspiration.Editing
Night photography requires patience and good post-processing time. I used Lightroom to work on my pictures to enhance shadows and reduce highlights, especially in night photography. In my camera bag
I'm an amateur photographer and learning little by little on my own, so I don't have specialized equipment like extra lenses or bodies. I have now an extra battery with me and a lens cleaner kit.Feedback
The only thing I can say is to have patience, go outside and try! Night photography is incredibly rewarding. I took a lot of pictures changing gradually my settings to get this image (f/8, ISO 640, Shutter speed15/1). I found that photographing the moon can be tricky but that is a fun way to learn too.
