Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot on Hove Beach just after we had had some dreadful weather, the light was just right the day I took this shot. It was a very early shot with my new camera. Though the Mayor was a little dissapointed that there was rust on the railings!!

Time

It was around lunch time, I worked just up the road from the spot and went for a walk with my new camera, since then I never go out without it as you can never know what may present it's self

Lighting

I was particulary lucky with this one as the lighting was naturally beautiful that day/

Equipment

I shot this on my Nikon D7100, though alas, I can't remember what lens I used, it was likely the kit lens.

Inspiration

I had been learing a lot about depth of field and I wanted to test this out as much as I could and see the different reults wider and smaller aperture gave me. being self taught makes it tricky to know if you have taken a good shot or not! Though I was espicaly pleased with the result here!

Editing

I didn't really know how to post process properly when I took this, I know adjusted the exposure a little and ensured the correct white balance was applied. As I gain more experience I have been a little braver with my editing, but I do try my best to ensure I get the shot in camera!

In my camera bag

I would normally carry my new Nikon D750 with the Nikkor 24-70 lens, the Nikon D7100 with a 50mm prime lens, I love the versatility of the 24--70, I think it is one of the best lenes money can by, but I can't deny I love the restriction and crispness of a prime lens, I think everyone should challenge themselves with a good quality fixed lens. Oh, I also have my lens pen and cloth in ther and a couple of business cards.

Feedback

The best advise I can give would be to just go out with your camera what ever the weather, wherever you are going, you just never know what you might capture, living in Brighton gives a lot of opportunity to capture some very interesting and contrasting shots. Having it's own little micro-climate you can be blown away by the colours the sky can create. Most of all don't be shy to try!
