It was early morning, I had just been tasked with doing some quirky head shots for a company so I thought I would try some self portraits firstLighting
I have been experimenting with various lighting set ups, this was a simple front light with octo softbox as two side lights with strip boxes on, I was using the PIka200 ttlEquipment
I use a combination od Nikion and Olymous cameras, for my lighting I use Pixa pro, I love the simplicity of their set up as well s their service too. tripos are also Pixa pro and my soft boxes are from Lux Light. I have an injury so I had to be very selctive with my kit as I travel a lot with it to do portraits. I can take a full studio set up to any location (including back drop and frames, again from pixapro!)Inspiration
I had an assignment for a company to do some quirky head shots and they wanted some examples of poses, so I took a selection of test shots, this was one of my favourites as I am often with a coffee, plus you can't see my face!Editing
Very little, I upped the exposure a little to remove any blemishes on the backdrop, I probably should have done something with the bags under my eyes, but that is what the coffee was for!In my camera bag
Depending on the shoot, I can take all manor of things (no day is the same!), for gigs, two cameras and a lanyard holder, and my mobile so I can transfer photos straight away. If I am doing head shots on location, then I will have, at least three tripods, backdrop and frame, one camera, laptop (plus tethering cable), reflector, up to six lights and modifiers! It sounds a lot, but I can carry it all in a back -pack and a tripod bag, it took a lot of practice, but I can now travel pretty much anywhere with a full studio!Feedback
PRACTICE!! I hate to be so boring, but it is the only thing that will help you improve, I love doing what I do, and I am continually learning new things and I am constantly challenging myself to improve, and I practice different techniques until I get them right then revisit old techniques to ensure I remember how to do it! Also, ask! there is no such thing as a stupid question, if you don't know you don't know, there are a lot of photographers that guard their techniques, what a lot of them forget is someone somewhere told them how to do it, also, we all have to start somewhere. I am more than happy to help and support other photographers when they need it!
