Location
This image was taken inside the Guildhall in Derry. The Guildhall is a building in which the elected members of Derry and Strabane District Council meet. It was built in 1890. The building was named in honour of its connection to the City of London and its guilds. It was officially opened in 1890 as the administrative centre for Londonderry Corporation. 120 years later it still retains its civic function and is home to the Derry City Council chamber and the Mayor’s Parlour. This is in the main hall and shows the fantastic organ. The hall is used for many civic events in the city.Time
I shot this on a Sunday afternoon around 3pm. Like most of us we never often visit places in our own town, so I decided to have a look about and being winter I found the building to myself.Lighting
The lighting was quite difficult in this room as it had ceiling lights and bright light coming in the window but quite a bit of the room was still quite dark.Equipment
At the time I was shooting with the Canon 70D and Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 Lens. I didn't plan this shot and did't have my tripod but luckly I had my Gorilla Pod and was ab;e to use that as I needed to use an exposure that was too slow for shooting handheld.Inspiration
The organ had been recently restored and I thought it would make a good photo.Editing
There is a bit of post processing in this shot. The shot is a panoramic HDR shot, so I had to shoot multiple sets of images to first create the HDR's then merge the sets to create the final image. The image would then have been enhanced using Nik, Photoshop and Lightroom. In my camera bag
I now shoot with my trusty Sony A7RII and 24-70 Lens. I aslo carry at least one other lens depending on what i'm shooting. Other equipment in my bag includes my flash, Circular polariser filter, 10 stop filter, Gorillapod, Wired remote as well as cleaning cloths and dust blower.Feedback
The big challenge here is handling the light and the best way to do that is shoot multiple exposures and blend them either in Photoshop or by using HDR software. A tripod is also recommended as doing a panoramic with the Gorillapod is also difficult.
