Know exactly what you mean, Paul! I’ve been to Whitewater Draw…those Sandhill cranes keep their distance. If some cranes happen to buzz by that are too close for the big lenses…pull out backup camera with a little less reach but versatile, I use a Tamron 18-400.

Totally agree. While big lenses definitely have their advantages almost all of my photography is done with a Nikkor 18-300 mm lens which on my Nikon D500 DX sized smaller than full frame processor makes the lens roughly the equivalent to 24 - 450 mm.
