Brazil-March 2 2014 Carnival in Rio De Janeiro: The dark clouds above the mountain were ominous. Then lightning struck the statue of Christ The Redeemer. The result of the lightning was damage to the statue resulting in braking off a finger of the statue right hand. Repairs were done to the statue that took many months. The Redeemer that is located on the peak of the Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca National Park overlooking the city in Rio de Janeiro .Rio de Janeiro is a strongly religious mostly Roman Catholic but at the time of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is time of festival before the Catholic time of Lent. The city goes wild with sexy dancing, music, and all out partying .I added color in post for the composition so the lighting could be seen and the contrasting colors blues for the Christian faith on the hill and red for the event of Carnival in town How I got the lightning strike.I heard thunder so I knew lightning flashes would come.. Saw a flash and waited for the thunder so I could time my photo for the next strike. I set my exposure for the frame and took the photos. I did not know I captured the lightning strike until I looked at the frames in post! The lesson is to home in ones camera skills for you never know when lightning will strikes.
