“On Sundays in Malibu there are car rally. “Run-what-you brung car& coffee”. This Sunday there was an abundance of cars. Most cars were parked at the Malibu Country Mart but there were some Porsches parked at the Malibu Village lot. The three Porsches sat lined up in the back lot at the Malibu Village lot.”Time
This photo was taken on May 1,2022 at 9:57 AM. When looking for a parking place I turned into the Malibu Village lot. My eyes fell on three beautiful Porsches parked side by side. I grabbed my Canon 7D Mark 2 and my Canon 3/3.5-5.6 ESF18-200 mm (72mm) lens. The lens is one of my favorites for the range in one lens. Then took time to walked around the cars to look at the cars and listen to the car enthusiast reaction to the cars doing some homework to evaluate my shot. I watched time noting that mid day sun will bring shadows. The day was clear but there were no strong shadows. I was happy that it was in the morning for light but late enough to hear the peoples reaction to the car.Lighting
Light is the key to photography.Light determines the lights and darks, the shadows, the tone, and the mood. The Porsches were all beautiful cars so I wanted the light to radiate the subject and be evenly distributed. I walked around the car to determine how to achieve the correct exposure and angle for the light.Equipment
This shot was hand held Canon 7D Mark 2 with Canon 3/3.5-5.6 ESF18-200 mm (72mm) lens. I rebought this lens. I love the range with the Canon 7D crop sensor with this telephoto lens. No flash natural light.Inspiration
I love passion! I enjoy taking photos of events and places that have people enjoying their passion. Car events have this type of excitement. A photo will find the photographer so I went out to see what opportunities would present themselves.Editing
I did. I edited in Lightroom v11-2 and in Photoshop. I worked with vibrance, contrast, clarity, tempature, the whites . I used the new Mask features in Lightroom v 11.2 for the background selecting subjects and background. Actually the new Lightroom v11.2 is amazing! I went to Photoshop to help get rid off any hot spots from the sunlight hitting the cars. Finishing off my edits with a crop.In my camera bag
I try to travel light. I take a lens cloth , a camera this time Canon 7D Mark 2 and one or two lenses. I have a cell phone and I bring a drink. I also bring the Rocket AIr Blower lens cleaner and lens hood.Feedback
My best advise is to get out! Photos will find you but you have to get out to capture them. Learn about your equipment and how to achieve exposures so you are ready. Be up to date on editing in post . Research for subjects and events and have fun! In the future I would love to acquire a variety of equipment that will aid in telling more visual stories.
