All of the dozen caves we examined on the upper slopes of the Jiroft mountains contained bear scats near their entrance, providing the first evidence that an isolated pocket of Asiatic black bears existed in central Iran. Most of the scats contained the remains of wild pistachio shells while a couple consisted mainly of bee carapaces.
