Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photograph back in 2011 at a mountain resort. Every year, enthusiasts from all over New England get together to show off about three hundred cars there.Time
It was afternoon. I remember that it was just cooling off and the sky was beginning to get overcast. This was the last picture I took of the day.Lighting
I think this photograph drives home how important light is to a photographer; even though I didn't plan it at the time, the fact the tire itself is cast in shadow make the reflection on the hubcap pop even more.Equipment
Pentax K-x and 55-200 mm kit lens.Inspiration
We'd just agreed that it was time to go home, and we were walking toward the exit when I saw the red truck winking at me out of the corner of my eye. I turned around and thought, "That will make a nice shot!" snapped a few pictures, then moved on. For the first time in my life, I had the feeling even before I pushed the shutter down that this one would be special.Editing
I didn't do any post-processing; I didn't know how in those days. :)In my camera bag
I never carry a bag, just one camera and lens.Feedback
This was the first time I'd ever used a dSLR. My sister had just bought a Pentax K-x, and even though I knew nothing about how to use it, the first time I looked through the viewfinder I felt like a world I never knew existed opened up to me. She couldn't make it to the car show, so I stole her camera! I think the thing I took away from taking this photograph was this: don't be afraid to be daring, no matter how little you know how to do it.
