Maritime landscape photography. Out of the number of images i have taken of this slipway bridge at the Holyhead Marina on the isle of Anglesey this is one of my favourites and it deserves its title in many ways. First, of course, it is because of the depth of field created by the bridge and slipway taking us to the storytelling action and the quayside beyond. Yet, for anyone whom has spent time working on the water , you will understand that , 'The Long Stretch', also describes the hard physical long hours that a Mariner has to work at sea. A working day which can take a toll on the human body and mind as displayed by the lone figure preparing to leave the slipway and head to shore whom is stopping for a moment to take a long stretch of his own. The evening light before sunset created a perfect mix of softness and crispness at this eye level perspective looking down the bridge to create the contrast of light and shadow highlighting the architectural detail , and a deep reflection of the bridge below. There is alot going on in the story but the dominance of blue in the sea and sky combined with the white tones still produce a portrait that is both intimate and relatively minimalistic.
