Try and locate the two-component adhesive used to glue together broken conveyor belts (the trade name escapes me right now). It is strong enough to repair ripped-apart industrial conveyor belts (like those transporting ore from the mines) by simple edge-to-edge reconnecting! In the same time one can repair complete shoe soles! The thing is incredible.
I once painted it thickly on my diving suit knees and sock soles to protect the Neoprene from chaffing (underwater photographing is often done kneeling) and from then on, these surfaces were virtually indestructible parts of the suit!
