I wonder why they have so many Buddhas? There must be a story behind it or an interesting reason.

In Thailand they worship the day in the week on which they were born, so most temples have 8 buddhas, one for each day of the week, and one extra for people who don't know what day they were born. Some bigger temples have 13 buddhas, one for each month of the year and one extra.
