Green kingfishers are the smallest of the three native kingfishers found in North America. We regularly have them on our property which is adjacent to the Nueces River. I enjoyed watching a pair of them and snapped a photo. When courting, the male will catch a small fish and perch, calling out for the female to come and then feeds her when she arrives. Her hopeful suitor showed up with his fish and called and waited for her but she was apparently still applying her makeup or something because he eventually ate the fish and flew away. Seconds later she flew to the perch and looked around in disappointment. I did not see much hope for them as a couple.
