Location
This was taken at a a nature and recreational area called Sunset Lake in Portland, Texas.Time
It was taken between 5 and 6 in the afternoon.Lighting
All natural sunlight. Sun was just starting to sink down in the west.Equipment
Nikon D3000 and Nikkor 55-200 lens. Handheld.Inspiration
Reddish egrets are one of my favorite wildlife subjects. These birds are very active and dramatic when they are hunting for food and I make an effort to get photos anytime I see one.Editing
Cropped to improve the composition and enhanced color and contrast. In my camera bag
I do mostly outdoor and wildlife photography. My backpack holds my camera, lenses, spare charged battery, plastic garbage bag, handy wipes, soft cloth, minor first aid items.Feedback
Know your subject. I prefer to capture wildlife subjects in their natural habitats. If I see something I want to photograph I will move slowly, and give the animal a change to adjust to my presence, if possible. This one decided I was no threat and actually moved closer and closer to me as I snapped shots.
