Behind The Lens

Location

Photo was taken inside a warehouse which had a gym setup and so we used the space and props as the setting.

Time

This was shot at around 11.15am on 12 July 2021 on a cloudy wintry morning making use of natural light to light the subject. I remember the shoot fondly as we were both energized into the creative process. Lots of great images came from the shoot, a truly collaborative effort.

Lighting

The lighting on the day was perfect, plenty of cloud cover giving a soft muted light which helped bring out the soft even tones. No other light source was used.

Equipment

This was shot hand held with a Nikon Z6, 24-70 mm f2.8. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

The inspiration came from wanting to improvise and create a setting for a gym shoot and the models strength and physical stature suited the set and the shoot on the day. The model showed great composure and presence throughout that it was a delight to work with her.

Editing

Some post processing was done. Mainly concentrated on the tones, highlights and shadow areas otherwise the image is as shot.

In my camera bag

I generally carry with me a Nikon Z6, 85mm prime, 24-70mm, 50mm prime. I try not to overload myself with gear and on most occasions I pack for the shoot and location.

Feedback

My advice to others would be to scope out the location if it’s somewhere new and take note of the light, which way the light falls, the direction and if there are any impediments prior to the shoot.
