Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken on the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado.Time
This was early winter in the late afternoon. I had been shooting in the gorge below for several hours and it was getting too dark to shoot. I waited on the bridge for about 10 minutes in order to catch the bridge shadows in the winter sun.Lighting
All natural light from the sun but since I was shooting almost directly into the sun, I had to stop down a bit to capture the shadows the right way.Equipment
The shot was made with a Canon EOS with a Canon 18 - 55mm lens. I had just removed the polarizing filter as I was looking to get a variety of outcomes to compare.Inspiration
I had been to Royal Gorge previously and had a wide array of " tourist shots". This trip, I was looking to get some artistic shots and was experimenting with changing natural light conditions both in the gorge and on the rim.Editing
Some minor cropping and color enhancements through Aurora. In my camera bag
This trip, I only had the Canon EOS and 2 lenses including an 80 - 300 zoom. Years ago, I had taught a college course in photography and never allowed any longer lenses under the premise that if you need a longer lens, you are not close enough. That was for beginners but sometimes I revert back to that philosophy when I start shooting from too far away and need to correct a bad habit.Feedback
Play with the light and lighting. Shooting from multiple angles is one way to do that.
