This is my first long exposure of a waterfall, it was really bright out, so out came the ND filter, tripod, and testing various mixes of exposure compensation. During the shot, it was so dark in the viewfinder I could barely see anything at all....just like when the power goes out in the middle of the night at home ...and you're bumbling around looking for candle or a flashlight.
.....Honey Creek in the winter !! I have shot this waterfall in the past, well 2 and a half years ago now that i think of it. It was in the summer and there were so many people all about, and all the trees were full of leaves and green.
.....Which made me a bit sad really because i really wanted to show off the terrain...those rock formations and so forth. As well, there was a bit of a drought I reckon because the waterfall only had this one stream coming down, not the 5 or so streams you see here. The pool below it was full.
....So can you imagine how elated i was to see the falls in full force, made even better by the lack of foliage about.
.....Now really, if you do look up this waterfall you will find many photos, it is not a secret place and so many visitors, campers, motorcycle clubs just abound in this area, all exploring this terrain in the Arbuckles its just a place people really enjoy.
.....So, in short, i am really grateful to get this shot you see here, I really like that starkness! The fact that you can see at a much farther distance the water travels over the sandstone and limestone which among other minerals line the bed of this aquifer fed creek. The bare, raw, and rugged terrain and trees in contrast with the fresh water crisscrossing over and through this creek presents a bit of a silver lining in my mind....it reflects life.
...If you look really hard there are people on the right side of the image, that's how big these falls are!
...Turner Falls is one of Oklahoma's tallest waterfalls, dropping 77 feet into a natural swimming pool. Located on Honey Creek in the Arbuckle Mountains.

Thank you for the description you gave us viewers. Lovely place and beautiful capture. It must have been a joy to photograph here at this time of year instead of when in is crowded, like you mentioned..
