Behind The Lens

Location

At a near side Loch approximately 2 miles from my home.

Time

It was about 2o'clock in the afternoon, when the rain stopped and the weather began to clear. So I decided to travel a short distance to Lanark Loch to see what kinds of birds I could spot, hoping to snap a good few pictures. The wind was quite brisk but the conditions were dry, what more could you ask for?

Lighting

It was a dull day and my camera was set for this.

Equipment

Camera and tripod with zoom filter lens and a few extra battery packs.

Inspiration

My main purpose that afternoon was to travel to the lake in order to take a few pictures of the ducks and swans, I automatically had to take this photo as I saw the potential of a good picture almost immediately. After all there are very few large birds that are more beautiful, graceful or majestic than a magnificent Swan.

Editing

no post processing was carried out.

In my camera bag

A few battery packs and some food for the birds.

Feedback

My tips are, the first thing you must do is to get yourself and your camera out there and you will see that a whole new world will open up with endless photo opportunities for you to take and share with your ViewBug family. In this particular photo I caught the swans eye from the other side of the lake by throwing some bread into the water, then I saw the Swan swimming towards me. As soon as she reached where I was standing I threw more pieces of bread into the small corner space between the reeds and the wall, you are able to see this area from the picture, and as soon as she turned to face the front opening I took this shot. This allowed more dimension to the photo by capturing the wall and the water also the reeds and the swan itself.
