Named after the song by Jethro Tull , ' Skating on the Thin Ice of a New Day ' , this Abstract Art Composition is a Macro image of the thin ice on a local lake cracking and melting in the winter sun just after sunrise. A symbolic representation of the fragility and temporary nature of beauty and the opposing beauty of deterioration and decay in all forms of Life both in the Natural and Human World. The exposure of this piece required angling the lens at just the right direction to the light source in order to get the correct degree of refraction in the reflection of trees above the water to produce a swirling dreamlike image rather than a recognisable one . This was helped by a just slightly longer shutter speed to produce a smooth texture to the water in contrast to the brittle edges of the melting ice , but not so long as to produce a soft water exposure effect. Abstract Nature Art Photography.
