Behind The Lens

Location

This image was captured in a warehouse that has been converted into studio lofts. The studio warehouse is share by artists of many different disciplines.

Time

Time stands still in this windowless space. The time of day can easily slip away while you are creating new art.

Lighting

A single sidelight shows the model's beauty.

Equipment

For this shoot, I placed my camera on a tripod with a fixed focus. When the test shots show good framing and light, I begin to pour the paint on the model snapping frames with a remote trigger every few seconds. As the paint flows down the model a new work of art emerges every moment.

Inspiration

A studio mate, Zack Smithey, uses a poured paint style to create amazing works of art. One day I inquired if he had ever painted and person. We collaborated on the first few, but soon I was able to paint and shoot at the same time.

Editing

I use LightRoom for my post-processing. I boost the vibrance and saturation a little, but mostly it is a crop and basic adjustments.

In my camera bag

My bag is always changing. I like to stretch my skills by changing up the equipment.

Feedback

I have a shower or hose for clean-up after. It is very messy!
