Behind The Lens
Location
"Inspecting Beauty" was captured in my shared studio space in a black plastic tub that is slightly smaller than an average home bath tub. White acrylic paint was added to the water to create the floating grey haze.Time
As an amateur art photographer, I find time whenever I can. This image was captured the evening of Thursday June 28, 2018. The environment was controlled. We only needed to find time when the model and I were both available.Lighting
The lighting is the key element in making this image interesting. Illuminating the flower and leaving the models face dark draws attention to flowers and brings a little mystery to the photo.Equipment
Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Aperture: f/11 ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/125 Focal Length: 70/1 Flash: Paul C Buff Alien Bee 800Inspiration
Capturing images of people that allow them to see themselves in a new way is thrilling. Jessie and I selected the tub, water and flowers as the medium to pose and capture something fun and interesting.Editing
LightRoom is my tool of choice for post processing. This image was white balanced to the flash. My typical process is adjust for the lens, boost clarity and saturation to my satisfaction. In my camera bag
My equipment bag as gotten lighter in recent years. It is no longer loaded with every possible choice. I typically grab my Canon 5d, 24-70 and one or two other lens that rotate. The rotating lens are there to push me creatively. After shooting with the safe choice, I often select a lens that is not the easy way to bring new vision to the creative process. Always remember, your best camera is the one you have with you!!! Something amazing can be captured with a phone camera.Feedback
