I got up early thast sunday morning with the intention of trying my 16-35mm f-4 and I was at the pier half an hour before dawn. I prepared my gear hoping that the clouds would contribute to a dramatic sky , but the sky was flat and uninteresting.
Fortunately for a couple of minutes there was a break in the clouds and the sun just spilled through and that gave the opportunity to take the picture.
It was cold so there was no people walking on the pier , just some poeople fishing and , luckily , were not moving during the exposure :)

I was thinking about removing a large part of the right hand side of the image to remove the dead space there and make the pier more prominent in the frame but , in the end , I left things as they were so as to let the figure of the ship to act as a "stop". The foreground rocks balance the pier in the frame.

Nikon D800 on manual mode, 10 stop neutral density filter , 3 stop soft ND grad , lens Nikon 16.0-35.0 mm f-4.0 , 120,0 sec; f-13; ISO 100 .
Image shot as RAW (NEFF) , imported in lightroom for lens corrections , passed over to PS6 for final sharpening, cropping and minor spot removal.
