Warthogs have short very broad necks in contrast to most hoofed animals. I suspect this is an adaption to hamper predation by lions and leopards which specialize in biting the vulnerable neck region of medium to large prey. To compensate for having a short neck when ground foraging warthogs commonly resort to kneeling.
