Behind The Lens

Location

I was exploring Cataloochee Valley in the Great Smokey Mountains North Carolina for the first time and found this really cool rustic foot bridge. The valley is protected and not easy to get to and is well known for it’s Elk population, a truly unique experience.

Time

This picture was taken on a cold sunny afternoon around 3 in the middle of December. I was lucky to have such a pretty day and love how the light shines through the trees to highlight the bridge and water creating a hint of a rainbow.

Lighting

The sun shining through the trees created light and shadows that really highlighted the bridge and the surrounding area. Light can really change a picture and in this picture, for me it created an invitation to cross the bridge into the forest.

Equipment

I took this picture with my iPhone XS without any other equipment.

Inspiration

I’ve never seen a foot bridge like this and thought it was super cool. You can tell it’s been there for many years with the moss growing on it and the old bricks and stone. It looks like someone used a big old tree to build it and gives the impression that it’s been there a 100 years. It really looks like it’s a part of the forest.

Editing

I just used the basic iPhone editing tool to help brighten the picture and let the colors pop.

In my camera bag

I’m an amateur photographer who just loves taking pictures. My iPhone XS is all I have these days and I take pictures of everything because you never know what you might see.

Feedback

Always be on the lookout for different places to stand, kneel, or crouch to take your pictures. Don’t be afraid to take your pictures from the side instead of straight on, not that straight is a bad thing but by taking this picture from the side the moss is visible, the individual bricks are visible and it changes the whole feel of the picture.
