I looked out my window one cold November morning and saw this little hummingbird shivering (I did not realize birds could actually shiver). This was after migration had essentially finished so I'm not sure why this one decided to linger. There always seems to be a few. Anyway, I quickly mixed up some sugar water and hung the feeder up. The next morning temperatures dropped to freezing and icicles hung from the trees and this feeder. But the sugar water was not frozen and the hummingbird took advantage. I believe this triggered it to move on further south.
Montell, Uvalde County, Texas during November 2019. I think this is a female ruby-throated.
