Location
I shot this photo last fall in the "Prater" - one of the big parks in Vienna/Austria.Time
As I prefer the soft light conditions, we chose the late afternoon and evening for our shooting.Lighting
For an available light shooting and to get a decent bokeh a soft light like in the later afternoon or evening is favorable. So it's possible to shoot against the light without getting harsh shadows and all those lovely bokeh circles in the background.Equipment
I've used a Canon EOS 5d Mk IV and the incredible Sigma 105mm F1,4 DG HSM Art. To get a low point of view I've used a bean bag.Inspiration
I needed to test this fine lens and I love dogs. So my significant other and me organized a shooting with Cookie - the Sheltie - and her human Theresa. I wanted to show the power of a 1.4 aperture giving such a bokeh and still get the subject tack sharp. The Sigma didn't fail!Editing
If you're choosing the right light situation and have time to take care about the bokeh and foreground, you don't have to do much. I didn't have to do more than a RAW development. There was absolutely no retouching, removing of parts or other image manipulation needed to get this result. In my camera bag
Canon 5d Mkiii, Canon 16-35/4 L IS, Sigma 24-35/2 Art, Sigma 85/1.4 Art ,Sigma 105/1.4 Art, Sigma 180/2.8 macro, Sigma 120-300/2.8 Sports, Canon 400/2.8 L IS USM, bean bag, Sirui and Berlebach tripods, reflectors and diffusors, gradient filters, polarization filterFeedback
Choosing the right location and time plays a major role for such a shooting. You should have some wanted results on your mind as time is a critical factor in the later afternoon and evening. The best light will soon fade away. We've scouted the location a day before the shooting so we could plan to visit 3 or 4 spots for our photos. This saved us a lot of time. A great model like Cookie is a dream as he knows some tricks taught by his human Theresa.
