Behind The Lens

Location

The picture was taken in my bedroom, looking out of a sliding glass door. The view changed daily, minute to minute even. The sunsets were the highlight of my days.

Time

Sunset was an habitual time for me to get my camera and enjoy the view. This day was no exception!

Lighting

I wanted the photo to appear thoughtful, dream like. I used the white balance to reduce the amount of light, resulting in more intense colors.

Equipment

I the photo was taken with my go-to camera, a Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. It was hand held, although I stabilized the camera body against the door frame of the sliding glass door.

Inspiration

I am naturally inclined to watch sunset from this spot. Over the years, I have taken many sunsets from this location.

Editing

I typically do limited post processing. In this case I intensified the colors somewhat.

In my camera bag

My Canon PowerShot SX60 HS (an upgrade from the camera I was using for this photo) is always the first thing in my bag. Some extra charged batteries, an extra camera card, and my pocket-sized camera manual are the only other items I carry.

Feedback

Find a familiar spot with an interesting scene that is easily accessible to you. Go there often, photographing it in all its moods, shadows, lighting, perspectives. The more you see, the more potential you will imagine for that spot!
