Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken at RHS Wisley on a hot August day. The colours said everything about that day, the heat in those colours conveyed the day perfectlyTime
It was mid afternoon and the light was tricky, but I managed to keep the light low enough to not over expose and ruin the colours.Lighting
Not the best time of day for lighting, but opportunities present themselves and need to be taken, just keep the aperture small and don’t let too much light in so the image doesn’t wash out.Equipment
Handheld on a Canon 5d mkIV, using a 100mm 2.8 L macro lens, I prefer this lens for flowers as it gives a shallow depth of field even without being close upInspiration
The heat and colour of the Dahlia seemed to just match perfectlyEditing
Very little post work, from memory I actually brought the levels down slightly to give a softer look.In my camera bag
I was shooting only Canon, but have just changed to Olympus M1X system, so looking forward to seeing the difference this offers. I still have my Canon kit though.Feedback
Just be aware of the light and background, I find darker backgrounds work well with bright flowers.
