Kishi Island is an open air architectural museum with over 80 buildings from Russia's rich architectural past. The Transfiguration Church was built in 1714. Totally built of wood, this is the last surviving original example of these wooden churches. 22 cupolas are covered by 30,000 aspen shingles. This island has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Island is located on the southwestern part of Lake Onega.
