Behind The Lens

Location

I took the photo early one morning in St Helens (Tasmania, Australia) after the sunrise display seemed to have finished, I started to walk away but then I turned back to look again (as I do) and wow! The sky was just making an amazing display. I was surprised at the two lots of colour side by side - it didn't seem real. So I kept taking photos till the display ended. What an amazing start to my day it was.

Time

It was 8.34am on 9 July 2017 - a lovely winter's morning.

Lighting

Nature did the display all by herself, I was just very lucky to be there at the right time with my camera to capture her art work around me.

Equipment

I used my Canon 600D camera on a tripod, f4, exp 1/640, iso 800, 55 mm focal length.

Inspiration

I love capturing the moment that you don't know is going to be there - anticipation of something to come! Whether it be sunrises or sunsets, the glittery golden colours on reflected water, birds in motion or resting, anything that just "grabs" my eye at the time. I frequently do not have a preconceived plan of what i will get photos of, I just have fun waiting for the "it" moment when my camera comes up and aims and snaps! :)

Editing

I can't recall doing any post-processing. I think from memory that it really was just as-is.

In my camera bag

Wow - there's a question! I have a couple of bags, one I carry with me and one I keep in the car always! With me bag has a spare lens (whether for close ups or action shots so i can inter-change), I also have an intervelometer for night time or slow motion shots and I have my ND filters. In my car bag I have a glass ball for fun photos. Also star point filters. I also have my wide angle Tamron lens for night time (aurora australis) photos. Also my fish eye lens.

Feedback

My advice is to always have a camera with you - whether your good camera or little one or phone - you jus NEVER know what is going to capture your attention and to have something with you to take a photo is just the WOW moment captured then. Good luck - I have fun with it all and I really hate spending ages thinking about settings etc unless it is for planned night time shots or very early morning too. After I take some photos then I can twiddle my settings for different results if I wish.
