Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at a studio containing a specialist water tank that is used for movies and tv shows. When we got there the model advised that she did not like water and could not swim!! She had to be coaxed and reassured, but eventually she felt safe to go down underwater. The tank was not deep - the model could stand up in it, which did make camera angles tricky, as it was necessary to avoid including the tank floor or the surface of the water in the shot.

Time

This was taken in black studio, so I have no idea on time!

Lighting

The shot was taken inside the studio and lighting for the tank was provided by them. Unfortunately, the lighting was not really bright enough so I had to compensate with in camera settings and in editing.

Equipment

My trusty Canon 5D Mark IV, which I love. Handheld, as I rarely use a tripod. Lens 28-70mm.

Inspiration

I was really keen to try some underwater photography. Everyone asks if my camera got wet, but the model was in a tank and the photographer stands in front of the tank on dry land!

Editing

Yes, I had to brighten up the image and I added a bit more skirt on the left to balance the image. Post processing was done in photoshop.

In my camera bag

My camera plus a 24-70mm lens and a 85mm prime lens. I sometimes carry a set of reflectors, as I prefer these to studio lights.

Feedback

You would need to attend a professional studio with a water tank, unless you have access to a fabulous restaurant/hotel that has this type of tank as a feature!
