I viewed almost 2K entries for this challenge. This one was the most frosty in feel with the added look in the dogs eye that touched me. Thank you all who entered...truly one of the hardest challenges I have had to judge. Shout out to Mercedess and JudithKuhn for their runner up entires. Not chosen lightly.

Behind The Lens

Location

There was a snowstorm, and we decided to go out and take pictures. Our dog is always joining us, and he loved playing around in the snow. Just after he ran through the tall grass, I took his portait.

Time

It was at the middle of the day, inbetween snow showers.

Lighting

The sky was as white as the landscape. There was no horizon anymore. The diffuse light worked like one big softbox, eliminating all shadows.

Equipment

I used my old and trusty Canon EOS 5D mark IV with a EF 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. It was handheld and covered in snow. It was difficult to see what I was photographing because of accumulating show in the viewfinder. But it worked.

Inspiration

I love taking pictures of our dog Bruc. He also loves to go out with us photographing nature and landscapes and looks happy. Snow seems to be very attractive, and he loves rolling and running through it. When he stood in the snow covered grass, he looked like a real snow dog. It something I hoped to photograph for a long time.

Editing

I enhanced the exposure a bit, corrected the white balance, and gave it a nice contrast. That's all.

In my camera bag

I take the equipment with me that I think I need. In this case I had my DSLR and a 70-200mm lens, because that's a great lens for this kind of photography. I also carry a wide angle with me, a set of filters, and a tripod.

Feedback

Don't wait until the snowstorm had ended. Go when it's happeing so you're at the location when the storm stops. Take a towel with you to wipe the snow from the camera and lens (and viewfinder), and don't be scared if the camera becomes cold and wet. Just don't change lenses under these circumstances.
