Behind The Lens

The image is made at the High Fenns in Belgium. A unique pieve of nature with moorland located in the Ardennes.
I was there at the end of the day. It was about 3 pm, just an hour and a half before sunset.
It was a thick overcast, with nice soft light. Since the clouds were heavy with snow, it had a natural gradient, becoming darker near the horizon.
I used a Canon EOS 5D mark IV with the Canon EF100-400mm II. It was shot hand held.
I was looking for a simple central composition. The tree was perfect, standing alone in the snow covered moorland. The dark part of the sky made a great transition between snow and sky
It has a simple Lightroom post-processing, with a bit of white balance correction, optimalization of the contasts, and a 4:5 crop. Nothing more.
In my camera bag
What I carry with me depends on the location I travel to, the place where I want to take pictures of. I often have a tele-zoom lens, because I love the possibilities it has with landscapes. But also a wide-angle lens like the EF 16-35mm III is perfect. And often I carry my filters with me. I use the new Haida M10 filtersystem with Red Diamond filters. Lastly I use a tripod 90% of the times.
Just enjoy walking through nature. You don't always need to make planns, or go out at certain times or moments. When you enjoy being out there, and see the landscape instead of looking to it, you will find things to photograph that cannot be planned. And if the moment doesn't alloow great photos, you might get inspired by the landscape, and find placed to go back to when the light is perfect.
