JMT DAY 18 - MONSTER ROCK

Monster Rock

After being blown away by the spectacular view of Le Conte Canyon as we were coming down from Helen Lake, we arrived at Monster Rock and took a break.

It is probably one of the most popular photo-op places on the JMT due to the rock’s shape and cracked ‘jaw.’ If you Image Google search JMT monster rock, you’ll come across some fun photos. The wide open mouth of the monster is ready to swallow anything and the sharp teeth assembled with the small pointy rocks are ready to chew you up hard!

Here I met Jeff Hester the SoCal Hiker and the man behind all the Six Pack of Peaks Challenges, who was half expecting to catch me. We had exchanged our dates when our paths may be crossed. He was leading a group of volunteers for his Muir Taco Adventure, which served delicious tacos to backpackers at Muir Hut.

Regrettably, we couldn’t join him because Henry and I were a day ahead of the event. Before we left though, Jeff got me a can of beer, which I later enjoyed when we were camping at the 1000 ft above the Le Conte Canyon that evening. It was really great catching up with him there.
