Behind The Lens

Location

Drygalski Fjord, Antarctica.

Time

Midday

Lighting

The clouds were in and out and I tried to get some clouds and blue sky. A blue sky without clouds is boring and all clouds are boring.

Equipment

I used my Sony RX100IV.

Inspiration

The vista was gorgeous but without the ship to give it perspective, it would have been boring.

Editing

I use Lightroom almost exclusively. I usually only do basic adjustments as I like the viewer to see what I saw, not enhanced unnaturally.

In my camera bag

It depends on what I am shooting. For night photography I still prefer my Nikon D-600 with a 14-24 lens. For underwater, my Sony D6300 with a 10mm lens and Ikelight housing. For most everything else I use the Sony RX100-IV, I am really finding that this bridge camera does the trick. I don't like it for night photos but the 600mm lens is lighter than my Tamron 150-200.

Feedback

Be patient for good lighting conditions. Try to have something in the foreground for perspective. I think that without the boat in the shot, it would not be nearly as interesting.
