I was in Gold Harbor on S. Georgia Island during chick season. It's always nice to catch animals in action.Time
This was in the morning and we had to hike around some feisty elephant seal teenagers. Half a million King Penguins were everywhere. It was really impressive.Lighting
It was cloudy with a little spritz of rain. Dull lighting can make for a boring photo. There were so many penguins around so I sat and watched and caught this moment close to where I was sitting.Equipment
I chose to use the Sony Rx10IV because it has a 24-600 built-in lens. It's hard to use a tripod and carry a lot of gear with so many penguins and seals around.Inspiration
I love wildlife. This was a trip of a lifetime and I want to return again next year. Such a magical place. It was just inspiring to sit among all the penguins. Stinky and noisy!Editing
I don't like to over process so I use Lightroom and basic settings. In my camera bag
I have switched gear over the last year. It depends on the trip. If photographing underwater I use a Sony a6300 with a housing. When on a vacation not wildlife-focused, I will use the Sony RX10iv. I now use a Sony Ar7iii with a 100-600 lens.Feedback
If you want to go to Antarctica, it is worth going to the Falklands and S. Georgia Is. If you just go to Antarctica you will likely just see Gentoo, Chinstrap and if you are lucky an Adele. You can see Macaroni and Rockhoppers more in the Falklands. If you want to see the chicks, you need to go over Christmas and New Years as chicks hatch late December. Being patient and just sitting among these amazing animals is awe-inspiring. Don't spend the whole time taking a million photos, enjoy the experience.
