Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken at a pool hall in Saint Charles, Illinois.

Time

This was taken on a cold December afternoon. We had split this shoot between two place, a retro hot dog joint and here.

Lighting

The lighting in this shot was the lighting that was available to me at the location. I think it provided the right look and feel for this shot.

Equipment

I took this shot on my Canon Rebel EOS SL1 with my 35mm prime lens.

Inspiration

As with most of my shoots, my ideas are fairly general; "Let's go here and see what we can get!" Some of my most favorite shots have been taken this way. As for this particular shot, it really wasn't anything more than "let's take a blurry shot with the focus on the ball you're aiming for." I try not to let a specific idea supersede the "in the moment" capture.

Editing

I did a little bit of color and lighting correction and enhanced the colors to allow them to pop more.

In my camera bag

Currently, I have my Canon EOS Rebel SL1 camera, my 55mm, 35mm and 85mm prime lenses.

Feedback

My biggest advice is to push yourself to try something new. Don't be afraid to ask if it's okay to shoot in different places, and most importantly, do not get caught up in an idea, just let the shoot play out as it goes.
