JMT DAY 13 - MT. SENGER AT SUNSET

Mt. Senger at sunset

As the sunset glow slowly started descending on the ridge, I swiftly moved about fifty yards down the lake, replanted my camera on the tripod and aimed it at the ridge of Mt. Senger (12,286’). The shallow water was still and reflected the ridge like mirror.

The elevation at the east lake was about 10,200 feet, and it was about 2,000 feet to gain in elevation to summit Mt. Senger. There are two class-2 routes to the summit, and one of them starts from the east lake of Sallie Keys Lakes. If I am not mistaken, the route goes up a gentle spur behind the ridge in front of me.

It can be reached via Selden Pass (10,800’) as well.

The summit would offer a 360 degree view of the mountain range. Facing north, Mt. Hooper in the northwest to Seven Gables in the northeast and all the lakes in between, including Marie Lake. Facing south, spreads out Goddard Canyon, where Muir Ranch is located, and beyond Mt. Henry looms.

Soon, the glow faded beyond the ridge crest, and the sky turned pink and blue. My favorite time of the day returned.
