Dowa Yalanne, or " Thunder Mountain ", is located in Northern New Mexico, near the town of Zuni
The mountain gets its name from the unusually, high amount of lightning strikes it receives, due to it being the highest point in the landscape for dozens of miles in every direction.
Dowa Yalanne is a sacred place to the Zuni peoples, and is mythologically associated with the "House of the Gods" and the making of rain, lightning, and thunder.
The mountain and its surrounding areas, are off limits to the general public, unless permission is granted by a member of the Zuni Nation.
