I have always liked, and, been a bit envious of other people's minimalistic photos and wanted one of my own.
After combing through my files I found this shot of a boat on a lake.
I cropped out the shoreline, softened it a bit and here is the result.

For this shot, I was on a bluff about 20 stories above the lake and 1-4 mile from the boat.
The water was extremely flat with just a hint of ripples from a soft breeze. The boat was trolling with a small electric motor, so it left almost no wake.
All the color and tone variations seen on the water are reflections of clouds from the sky above.

Afternoon rain clouds were high in the sky (bottom of image), afternoon colors were just beginning to show in the mid-sky (above center), and soft, diagonal clouds and a layer of haze were just above the horizon (very top of the image).
