Thierry Schmitter is a kitesurfer who's not stopped by sitting in a wheelchair, his skills are impressive! He straps himself to a seat mounted to his kiteboard ("sit-kite"). We attached a flash to the lines for an evening session on the water in the "Zandmotor", The Hague, the Netherlands. It was fun, we only stopped when it was too dark to focus the camera.

Location
I met with Thierry Schmitter for this shoot at the at an artificial North Sea saltwater bay, the "zandmotor" near The Hague, The Netherlands.Time
The shoot was planned for the time around sunset. We kept shooting until it was too dark to focus.Lighting
I attached a radio triggered compact flash to his lines, pointing at him, giving him a nice spotlight.Equipment
I took this photo from the shore with a Sigma 150-600 mm lens, a Nikon D800 and a radio trigger on a tripod. A compact flash was taped to the lines of the kite.Inspiration
Thierry Schmitt is kitesurfer who's not stopped by sitting in a wheelchair. He straps himself to a seat mounted on his kiteboard and enjoys kitesurfing to the max, his skills are impressive. I wanted to show his endurance, skill and joy with the photos taken during this session.Editing
I did some minor adjustments to the photo (exposure, contrast, clarity, cropping). In my camera bag
The gear I take to a shoot depends a lot on the circumstances. At the end of the day, it's not about the gear you have, but what you do with it.Feedback
For a shoot like this, work with experienced people only. Have helping hands and backup. Play it safe.
