Location
This photo was shot at the beauty studio of hairstylist Anca Gogance, in collaboration with MUA Andra Durnea and model Patricia Caragui. The goal of the session was to create three unique hairstyles and images there-of, to be used in a hairstyling competition.Time
The shooting took place from late afternoon and into the night, as each hairstyle took some time to create.Lighting
The lighting was completely artificial, using flash light.Equipment
For this shot I used a Nikon D5200 with a 70-200mm Nikkor lense, hand-held, and using a flash and diffuser.Inspiration
As mentioned, this shot was one of three images created in the photo session, each featuring one unique hairstyle created by Anca Gogance, enhanced by our talented model and gifted MUA. From the photographic point of view, the option we went with was to make the images monochromatic, and emphasize with soft lights and shades the visual depth and detail of the portrait and look, while at the same time creating a strong composition.Editing
The image was originally shot with natural colors and slightly underexposed to keep all tones as soft as possible. Afterwards the post-processing was mainly aimed at creating the monochrome result and bringing the light tones to optimal levels, while again emphasizing the soft tones and shadows.In my camera bag
Usually I carry my trusty Nikon D800E and the NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G lens with me for most photography sessions.Feedback
For creating this type of image, I think that the key is to trust your team and let them be as creative as possible, while from the photographic point of view making the best possible choices to enhance their result. A lot of times the method differs and you have to get creative and also trust your instinct. Good luck!
