This photograph was taken at a studio beauty session with amazing model sisters Andreea and Larisa, in collaboration with talented MUA Andra and hairstylist Daniela.Time
The photo session was during an afternoon, but as we were shooting in the studio, we didn't use natural light.Lighting
The lighting was completely artificial, using a remote flash light mounted on a tripod. I placed the light source behind me, a little to the right as not to cast shadows and to obtain the soft tones.Equipment
I used the Nikon D5200 with the Nikkor 55-200 tele lens, hand held. The light source was a flash mounted on a tripod. We used a black studio background panel.Inspiration
The aim of the session was to capture the relationship of the two sisters, albeit in a beauty context. This particular image stood out for me, especially because the face to face and very close position of the models, the older one looking at the younger, which in turn looks down. The composition and attitude emphasized the relationship and bond they share.Editing
All pictures from this photo session were meant to be color photographs, except this one which I intentionally post-processed in monochrome, to simplify and enhance the emotional motif of the shot. I also cropped it to the square shape for composition purposes. Other than those main modifications, I also adjusted the lights and contrast, and last but not least did some 'frequency separation method' retouching - as it was also meant to be used for the models, MUA and hairstylist portfolios.In my camera bag
Nowadays I usually take with me my Nikon D800E with a Nikkor 50mm F1.8 and a Nikkor 18-70mm F2.8 lens, which I interchange based on the specifics of a particular photo session.Feedback
The image maybe stands out from other beauty shots because of the intimacy it conveys, which in turn was a natural effect of photographing two actual sister, and showcasing their natural bond. I would advise to choose the subjects and their environment in a way that already in itself creates meaning in your photograph.
