JMT DAY 7 - MILKY WAY AND PERSEIDS OVER DUCK LAKE OUTLET
Milky Way and Perseids over Duck Lake outlet
On my way back to the campsite after taking shots of the Milky Way with a higher vantage point, the mesmerizing reflection of the galaxy at the outlet of Duck Lake literally stopped me. It was getting late, but I just couldn’t take my eyes off of it.
The shallow outlet filled with fallen trees as if beavers created a dam and brimmed with tall trees that blocked high winds seemed to be just a perfect sanctuary for solitude. With the sky lit up with the stars, the purple wildflower decorated pool seemed like straight out of a fairy tale.
With the backdrop of the galaxy traveling across the sky strewn with thousands of stars, the Perseid Meteor Shower continued. I never got tired of counting them in wonderment. Mars seemed to be shining brighter than usual that night although the red planet must’ve traveled farther away from us since a couple of months ago when it was at the closest distance to Earth.
Part of me wanted to stick around a bit longer to enjoy solitude here, but I knew better. I had to get up early next morning to catch sunrise.
