Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a park in Jacksonville, North Carolina. I love having sessions at this park because the lighting is gorgeous and it's also a bit of a hidden gem, almost no one knows where it is.

Time

This was taken during golden hour, but it was a very cloudy day so the light was extremely diffused.

Lighting

This was shot using natural light only.

Equipment

I use a Nikon D750 with a Nikkor 85mm 1.8 lens.

Inspiration

This family session featured a husband and wife with their two furbabies. I wanted to make sure we got a great image of their pups individually for them.

Editing

I processed the raw and made some artistic tweaks, like I do on all of my images.

In my camera bag

I typically carry my D750, 50mm, and 85mm prime lenses. I also have my SB500, Parapop and MagSphere for when I want to do something a bit more complicated with lighting but I didn't use them for this image.

Feedback

Getting dogs to look at you while staying still and getting a "smile" is definitely a challenge! Fortunate, this pup was well trained to listen to Dad so we used a squeaky toy to grab his attention, which made him "smile". Also, be aware of your background! I chose this bridge specifically for the leading lines and positioned the pup and myself to make sure that happened.
