Everything looks good at this time of day, whether you're shooting portraits, still life or Landscape. Its a warm golden time to shoot.Equipment
Shot with a Canon 5dmk4 with a 70-200 canon lens at 200mm.Inspiration
The swell was up, the sky was a golden hazy colour due to the burning off season in early spring. There were many fires, from sugar cane burning and several other fires in the hills west of here. Mix that with not a lot of wind and you get these smoky golden afternoons. The inspiration for this shot was from watching the surf push in on the tide, the beautiful sky and the energy of the sea.Editing
Some post processing in Lightroom, increased the contrast as the haze had affected the whole shot. Brought down the highlights a little to even it out and increased the shadows. Some colour adjustment to enhance the difference between the warm gold and the cool sea.In my camera bag
I'm a Canon shooter and I have a rather heavy bag of gear usually. I carry two bodies a 5dmk3 and the newer mk4, so I can still shoot while waiting for a long exposure or have a wide and a long lens going at he same time. I use a sigma 12-24 lens often for that extra extra wide, a 17-40 canon is a great solid performer, the 70-200 probably one of the best lenses ever made. I have a couple of ex 600 flashes and a transmitter for those times a bit of extra light is needed. Various filters, NDs and a polariser. Always have a bunch of spare batteries, a microfibre cloth and a small torch. You never know, you might fumble and lose a bit of gear in a crevice or the shooting is going so well that you stay for hours into the night.Feedback
Shooting the ocean... definitely best to check the wind direction as salt spray can ruin a good day out. Some days are going to be so much better if the conditions are right, offshore breeze, incoming tide, either very early or very late in the day. Sunset is a warmer light which adds a great feel to the scene. For this particular shot. I used a tripod, a slow shutter speed of around 1/4 second while panning at - hopefully, the same speed as the waves.
