Location
This Photo was taken at Lady Musgrave Island lagoon. It is located in the Southern Great Barrier Reef, QueenslandTime
This photo was taken at around 2pm on a winters afternoon.Lighting
Not a cloud in the sky, no wind. Rare, perfect conditions, bright winter light.Equipment
This was shot with a canon 5d mk4 and a 12-24 sigma lens.Inspiration
The inspiration to take this photo was the sheer beauty of the place. I was in a small runabout gliding over this smooth lagoon and a turtle comes up for a look. They are very tame after decades of being in a protected area. The clear blue water allowed a clear shot of anything that was going to be in the water.Editing
This photo did not need much in the way of post processing. In Lightroom, adjusted the crop to level the horizon, toned down the glare by lowering the lightness and increasing the shadow slider a little, then increased the contrast a few percent. The lens was set at F8 and is very sharp at that f stop and the photo needed no sharpening at all.In my camera bag
I'm a Canon user - only because Ii started out that way and I am so familiar with the controls it would be hard to change. I generally take 2 bodies in my bag, a mk4 with a wide lens usually and a mk3 with a long lens. This one was the Sigma 12-24 F4, a super wide that I use often for landscape. For travel I use an old Crumpler photo backpack ( I wish Crumpler would bring them back out, they are the most comfortable bag I have ever owned). In the bag are: the 2 bodies, a 70-200 canon lens - my favourite - the wide sigma, a 50mm 1.8, a canon speed light 650 in case I need a bit of extra light, spare batteries, cards... and of course a tripod that straps to the bag. Its a heavy manfrotto 055 but I take it everywhere. It can withstand a lot of wind. I have a carbon fibre travel tripod which is so light and is fantastic but when it comes to deciding what to pack and I can only take one, the old 55 wins.Feedback
This is one of those being there and being ready shots. To be ready, check the aperture and shutter speed you will probably need for the shots you want before you need it.
