Behind The Lens

Location

Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island, Georgia.

Time

Sunrise or just before it. I'd arrived about 30-45 minutes before the actual sunrise.

Lighting

I just used the natural light but opened my shutter as much as I could without blowing out the background.

Equipment

I used my new Sony A7R3, which I wasn't totally familiar with yet, along with a newly purchased 3 legged thing tripod. As for the lens, I used the Sony G series 24-105mm.

Inspiration

There were so many pieces of driftwood on the beach and as I was walking along the beach, the reflection of the clouds caught my eye and so I tried to get as much of the water surrounding the tree stump and the reflection in the photo.

Editing

Yes, but very little. I use Lightroom primarily and just used a few sliders like exposure, contrast and a little bit of highlighting the tree stump itself but not much. I not too much of a fan of post-processing so usually try to stay away from it.

In my camera bag

Nowadays I carry my Sony A7R3, the 24-105mm G series lens, along with a 70-300mm G series lens, a Laowa 15mm lens, as well as my 3 legged tripod. Oh, and a Vello Shutterboss.

Feedback

Just get up early, get out there and keep taking shots and looking around for different perspectives. Be patient for lighting conditions that can change frequently or after some time.
