Location
The photo was taken at Lake Casoli in the region of Abruzzo in Italy.Time
It was evening and the sun was setting with an orange glow. I was driving past this lake and noticed that the water was nice and calm and I could see the reflection of the mountain in the background clearly. So I pulled over just before a bridge that traverses a small section of the lake and as I was walking up to take the photo of the mountain's reflection when I noticed this set of trees sticking out of the water. It just caught my eye and so I took this photo.Lighting
The evening glow of orange was fantastic and almost mesmerizing. I noticed the lighting reflected in the clouds on the lake and just couldn't pass up the shot.Equipment
I used a Nikon D40 with its kit lens, which I believe was the 18-55mm. I used a Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
The lighting, the reflection and the fact that it just caught my eye.Editing
I did very little post-processing in this photo. I changed the exposure slightly but not much. I increased the highlights a bit and lightened up the shadows a little but in general there wasn't much processing done.In my camera bag
Now I carry a Nikon D7100, a Canon s120 point and shoot, spare batteries for each camera and no spare lenses. As I get older, I prefer less weight so I just have the kit lens 18-55mm lens on the D7100. Plus, I carry a few odds and ends for keeping the lenses clean.Feedback
Just follow your instincts, if something catches your eye then take a shot. If possible, keep a tripod handy. I keep one in my car so it is always available.
